Go Kayaking

Since the coast is still Lagos’s most attractive feature, spending time exploring every corner is something most visitors will want to do. Despite the boat tours being an excellent way to navigate the caves, kayaking is the best way for adventurers to get some extra exercise. Either book a kayak tour or rent one and take your time to move at your own pace.

Ponte da Piedade

A Portuguese natural wonder awaits on a headland a few minutes south of the old centre of Lagos. The promontory of Ponta da Piedade is a fantasy landscape of caves, grottoes and sea arches that nature has sculpted from the cliffs over thousands of years.

Undoubtedly the best way to appreciate the beauty of Ponta da Piedade is from the sea. If you come on a boat or kayak tour from the marina you’ll get to pass under natural arches and enter caves. But on foot is almost as memorable as you’ll descend a staircase cut from the cliff face, while at the top the view from this headland goes as far as the Cape St Vincent in the west.

Lagos fish market

The Lagos fish market, found on the main Avenida, opposite the marina, hosts three floors of magnificently fresh produce. On the ground floor fishermen sell their daily catch,]. We recommend getting there early (around 6-7 am) for the best selection. There are also 4 butcher shops. On the first floor you can find a range of local farmers produce, including fruit, vegetables, herbs, dried fruits, nuts, oils, sauces and cheeses.

Play Golf

There are various golf courses in Lagos and her surroundings. Definitely worth visiting is Palmares Golf (awarded best course of Portugal).

Palmares golf course is a 27-hole golf course offering three distinctive loops of 9-holes (the Alvor, Lagos and Praia courses) but equally challenging and interesting. The courses sweep down to the ocean, allowing all golfers the opportunity to marvel at the natural beauty.

Go mountain biking

Want to be active instead of being all day on your sunbed, then go for a mountain bike adventure. You can do all types of mountain biking from a relaxed scenic day trip to challenging uplifts in the mountains.

Mountain bike journalists recommend Lagos and surroundings as one of the top five places in Europe to ride and top fifty in the world.
